Laptop power problem

I think that I already know the answer to this one, but once again google has left me confused.

I was looking for an upgrade to my HP TM21010ea laptop. In the end, I decided to just get a TM2T-2200 motherboard and replace the one I had (simple enough). The thing is that, the TM2T-2200 was only available in the states. So I checked out the power supply needed. I found lots of replacement chargers with the following outputs 18.5V, 3.5A, 65W and a input of 100-240V. That's the same as the adapter I'm using now. 

The motherboard came today and it's in good condition. I've installed it and plugged the sucker in and it won't turn on. 

The laptop shows that it's getting power, the light that indicates that the mains is plugged in comes on. and a light on the wireless button is on too (but it's orange, saying that the wireless is off), it even charges the battery. I was assuming that as long as I have an adapter that meets the requirements for it, I should be fine using it in the uk.

I had another search for replacement chargers and I was getting the same results. But I found this one now (pic related):

This one has higher outputs, 19V and 4.74A. This has now led me to believe that what I have might not be enough to power the motherboard. But, would this be the same reason why it won't turn on with just the battery? 

I'm thinking that if I get an adapter and battery that are specifically made for the TM2T-2200 I should be fine. Or could this be a different problem altogether. I have done the usual things like remove things and turn it on, unplug everything and hold down the power for a set amount of time, so on and so forth.

I'm not sure how to move forward from here.

If you get an adapter and battery made for your laptop than yes, you should be set to go!

Sorry about the late reply. I had the fantastic opportunity to talk to someone who worked for HP. He told me that what I was planning to do (just replacing the mobo inside the laptop) should've worked without changing the power lead or battery. We found where a "fix" was made on the board, when the fella from HP looked at it he said "That's not our work". We finally came to the conclusion that the board was a complete dud. When I contacted the seller of the motherboard about the power problem, I was given a complete refund without question. So I'm guessing that they had little to no knowledge about their stock.

I wasn't sure about replying to this topic after it's been some time. But, I should at least finish it.
