I want to know if i can upgrade my ram i have 4gb pre-installed ram and going to buy 4 gb more so please tell me if my laptop is capable of doing so my laptop model is HP 15-r217nx

My comment after finding how to replace/upgrade/change ram would only be, "WOW".
Here's what I found - IMO, it's not good...
There may be one OR two ram slots in your laptop (it varies) but that's not yet the bad part.
Here's what I consider the "bad" part - in your model, ram is only to be accessed by Authorized Service Providers (found on page 49 and beyond of the service manual for your model), it literally requires complete disassembly to access and will likely void any warranty by upgrading on your own.

If you are not concerned about completely disassembling your laptop and possibly voiding your warranty or, if your warranty period is over, we can get you going but I thought you might want to be aware of the issues here.
