After nearly 3 years of using my old laptop, I'm looking for an upgrade. Preference is something under $2000, but could probably pay a couple hundred more if there is something very good out of that range.

I need something that can play every game at reasonable settings, though it need not be ultra on every game. I don't care about 4k vs FHD and would prefer a higher quality screen with accurate color representation over a higher resolution. I would prefer a 17 inch laptop, but if there is a smaller one recommended I do have the ability to use a good monitor. In either case I would appreciate gsync.

In terms of something slightly superficial I would favor a more "professional" look to the laptop if its an option though this is way down the list in terms of importance.

The short list of general specs of my old laptop(MSI gs70)
CPU-i7-4710Q
16gb ram (at 1866 I believe)
870m gpu
1tb hdd

summary

  • Preferably under 2000
Can play at least most games at high settings
Screen quality matters more to me than resolution
    17.3" with gsync prefered
questions
1.Laptop Recommendations?

Bonus
2. 1080 worth it over 1070?
3. kaby lake worth it over skylake assuming the 6th gen laptops will now drop in price?

thanks for whatever help you can give me

edit:This may come up later, but the reason I am not building a 2000 rig is because I need the computer to be at least somewhat portable.

and no, i don't think the performance jump is big enough to justify the price gap b/w 1070 and 1080...

Those 2 laptops starscream27 recommended are on my shortlist. Sadly the msi Stealth pro w/1070 is not coming anytime soon... I like it so much that I almost buy one w/1060

In my humble opinion the Asus has better screen (g-sync!), more ssd storage (512), but the Apache looks way better and has a great keyboard from steelseries...
