Hi, I'm 14 this year and would like to get a new laptop/desktop. I am interested in both the HP Envy Spectre XT and the Alienware X51. I'm not really sure if I should get either one of them, or perhaps something else. I previously owned a Sony VAIO VPCCW15FG. It was good but it kind of gets laggy every now and then. I've been using it for 3 years now and would like to get a new one. I've copy and pasted a template from another forum below addressing general criteria questions:
1) What is your budget?
Probably up to about $1900?
2) What size notebook would you prefer?
Uhh. 13" - 14" maybe?
3) Where will you be buying this notebook? You can select the flag of your country as an indicator.
Singapore.
4) Are there any brands that you prefer or any you really don't like?
I don't really like Sony, Lenova and Toshiba. I don't intend to get a Macbook because my brother already has one and I can use it whenever I want.
5) Would you consider laptops that are refurbished/redistributed?
No
6) What are the primary tasks will you be performing with this notebook?
Basics; word, powerpoint, excel, surfing of net, skyping, occasional gaming, occasional watching of movies.
7) Will you be taking the notebook with you to different places, leaving it on your desk or both?
I prefer something with good portability, but without compensating quality. I'm not really sure if I'm going to bring it out. I could leave it stationed at my desk if it is too heavy and I can take my brother's Macbook if I need to bring it out for projects and stuff.
8) Will you be playing games on your notebook? If so, please state which games or types of games?
Occasionally, I'll probably play Counter Strike/Team Fortress 2/Path of Exile/flash and browser games.
9) How many hours of battery life do you need?
I guess it should have at least 5?
10) Would you prefer to see the notebooks you're considering before purchasing it or buying a notebook on-line without seeing it is OK?
Prefer to see.
11) What OS do you prefer? Windows (XP or Vista or Windows 7), Mac OS, Linux, etc.
I love Windows 7.
12) From the choices below, what screen resolution(s) would you prefer? Keep in mind screen size in conjunction with resolution will play a large role in overall viewing comfort level. Everyone is different. Some like really small text, while others like their text big and easy to read.
Perhaps 1600 x 900.
13) Do you want a Glossy/reflective screen or a Matte/non-glossy screen?
Anything that allows me to see the screen better.
14) Are the notebook's looks and stylishness important to you?
Yea. But of course, the main thing is about the performance and the mobility.
15) When are you buying this laptop?
Pretty much now.
16) How long do you want this laptop to last?
Probably for about 3 years.
17) How much hard drive space do you need; 80GB to 640GB? Do you want a SSD drive?
Uhh. The more GB, the better. Anything that would make the computer faster.
18) Do you need an optical drive? If yes, a DVD Burner, Blu-ray Reader or Blu-Ray Burner?
I guess I'll only need a CD/DVD player.
Thank you so much for taking the time to read this. I really need your help. I am seriously caught in a dilemma. Thanks!
