Laptop shut off by itself yesterday after I plugged in a usb

Hey guys so yesterday I was trying to use a bootable usb with a disc image on it to reinstall windows on my laptop, but when I suddenly plugged it in, my computer shut off! When I turned it back on I got a message saying something like : Windows had an unexpected shutdown. I remember this happened about a week ago too. In both instances, I never did anything labor intensive to my pc and I doubt it was overheating. It never did this before and I'm fairly certain my laptop components are fine. what do you guys think?
