laptop turns on but black screen.. then turns off, could use some help

Hi everyone

My Acer Aspire V5 (windows 8) was working fine last night, I had a movie on it and then put it to sleep and let it charge over night. This morning I turned the power on and the fan and power lights came on but the screen remained black, it then turned off 30-60 seconds later. Cannot get audio or video on power-up even connecting to a TV or other monitor.

What Ive tried

- removing a stick of RAM and booting up, removing the other stick or removing both. No change, black screen on powerup then turns off a bit after
- removing HDD and turning on with RAM in, no change
- have tried with and without battery plugged in, taken battery out for hard reset etc

Any other ideas out there? Tried searching but wasn't much use. Thanks for any help.

Try resetting the BIOS by removing your laptop's battery, then removing the CMOS battery from the motherboard, leaving it out for a few minutes, and putting it back in.
