My Acer laptop when run without battery shuts off frequently. Can someone help fix this problem

Some laptops need a functioning battery installed either to work at all, or for some things to work correctly. I would suggest replacing the battery.

Sometimes it works for hours without shutting down but then at times it shuts down within minutes

It may well depend on what you are doing also. Different things pull more power. Which, for some, may need the battery as a secondary power.

You can try checking all the power settings into the following...

1. Go into "Control Panel" and click the "Power Options".
2. Next to the plan that is currently selected click "Change Plan Settings".
3. Now click "Change Advanced Power Settings".

Then go through the individual settings and see if anything is set to also need to draw power from the battery.
