Laptop won’t boot - optical drive is making a clicking noise every second - can’t get to bios or see anything on screen. Tried removing optical drive but machine won’t start (but no clicking noise) and still can’t get to bios or anything. Machine is Asus x550c running Windows 10. Any suggestions?

Solution
If the system won't start with the optical drive removed, sounds like the motherboard is bad. Try removing the CMOS battery from the motherboard, unplug wall power and main battery, hold in the power button for 30 seconds, then with the batteries still out, see if it turns on with wall power only. If it does, try again with the batteries. Also try removing all RAM and see if the system beeps. If it does not, dead motherboard.
