Laptop won't boot

Went to bed and laptop was fine. Next morning it started to boot for a couple seconds and quits. No lights. Just quits. HD is fine - put it in an external case and checked it out.

Memory is relatively new - laptop is Acer Aspire and is 5 years old running windows 7 Pro. Best laptop ever until that fateful day.

I bought a new one but would love to see if there is any hope for this one. All the answers I've seen are for towers. I've built a few of them but never done anything with a laptop other than replace memory and take the HD out. Any suggestions?

try running it without the battery in case it's a battery power, anything else will require you to take it apart.

sounds like adapter/power issue....
Did you scan your HDD?...for virus?
