Question Laptop won't indicate it's turning on yet still displays on external monitor.

When I press the power button on my laptop there is no noise indicating it's on nor is there the normal light that indicates it's powered on. The screen is completely black and doesn't so much as flicker. Though my external keyboard turn on and it displays on my monitor as though the laptop is on. Even when I close my laptop the monitor still displays which is odd as it normally looses connection.
