laptop won't show up

My laptop will show up if I plug into the hdmi on the TV. But I put a Belkin hdmi switch on and it won't work through the switch but DVD, DVD recorder, and ps3 do. Im perplexed ! I have also tried different cables and different ports on the switch. Do you think the switch isn't strong enough, it is only hdmi powered. Thanks.
