Hey, the touchpad and keyboard on my laptop just quit working out of the blue. It wasn't dropped, nothing had been spilt on it. I hadn't installed any kind of updates or changed anything. I can't even boot into system startup. I can plug in an external mouse and keyboard and they both work fine. I've tried removing them and restarting, checking settings, pretty much everything I can think off. The laptop is only a couple of months old and i'm running Ubuntu 17.04. Any advice would be greatly appreciated.

Solution
Try this...

1. Uninstall the keyboard driver.
2. Reboot the computer (without reinstalling the driver).
3. When it restarts, it should reinstall the driver on its own.

If this doesn't work, you may want to try updating the Synaptics Driver. If neither work, then it could be the keys themselves that are the issue.

Same thing happened to me and the solution was quite simple.

Shut down the computer, unplug the power cord, then hold the power button for at least 30 seconds.
This is supposed to drain the battery and seems to reset the computer.
Plug in the power cord and start the computer.

That's it. At least for me that got the keyboard working again.
