Question Lenovo thinkpad T440s underperforming... Why?

Hi, I recently bought a refurbished Lenovo thinkpad T440s, intel core i7, 12gb Ram, 64 bit. I'm living abroad currently and a friend who came to visit brought it with him. It seems surprisingly sluggish- about 20- 25 seconds to load youtube (which is much slower than my phone...), and adobe photoshop said it couldn't use some of its features for lack of available memory- which seems staggering to me since I've barely put anything on the laptop. The battery also seems lacklustre, though it's not so much of a problem as I normally keep it plugged in. Could anyone suggest what the problem might be? Or where to look and how to fix it?

check cpu temp? hdd/sdd health?
malware scan?
task manger to see what is running?

Task manager says 28% memory is being used currently, everything else is very low, windows protector says that there are no problems, an sdd scan says its health is good, adding that the temperature has reached 59 degrees before, though now its fine. I include the data from the app that read the sdd, just in case it helps:
