Lenovo Y500 vs. MSI GE70 0ND-245NE for gaming

Hi,
I have a problem by choosing two latops,
Lenovo Y500 and MSI GE70 0ND-245NE (NOTE! The lenovo comes with sli gt 650)

Which of these laptops would you think to be the best for gaming/school/movies/music and so on.
Graphics is important and the sound is so too and so is the keyboard and other stuff primarly used when in school (am going to have it with me every day)

I have a budget around the 1.200 euro, if you have other great suggestions

Hope you are able to help me and give som advice about what's smart and not (like should i wait buying or something like that).

was looking into a y500 myself this one on newegg comes with dual 650shttp/www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16834312438
...but could only imagine the heat since some already complain about the heat with only 1 gpu and needed to buy a fan..so the y500 if your willing to get the fan but the msi looks great and 660 is better than 650 btw

The GT 650m SLI is significantly better than a single 660m.

I would go with the Y500 for sure. The second card fits in the Ultrabay in place of the optical drive and operates on a different heatsink and fan than the first. It doesn't impact thermal performance.

Something to consider though is that the Y500 was recently upgraded to include the GT 750 chips in place of the 650s. I'm not sure if that model is available in your country or not.

The Y500 has sli so the GPU is better on the Y500. I dont know about heat, but read on notebookcheck that it will be around 30-40 degrees.

Absolutely, own the Y400 which is the 14" version but nearly identical.

Sounds is awesome. The JBL speakers are the best I've heard in a laptop. Waybetter than the "beats audio" system that is in the HP I recently bought for my Dad.

Keyboard is excellent as well with great feel and it's easy to type fast on. The backlight looks great and can be adjusted to 3 different levels of brightness.

The screen I can't comment on because the Y400 has the 1366x768 screen while the Y500 SLI has the 1920x1080. I would say the screen on my unit is a a little better than average so the higher resolution unit will probably be very good.

The overall quality and feel of the unit suggests something quite a bit more expensive.

But aint the screen glossy? Isn't that a bit annoying to look at or am I just to sensitive?

It can be, yes. If you are sitting with direct sunlight behind you there is a glare from the screen and the glossy bezel around it. It can be pretty annoying, but I rarely play where the sun is shining like that. For normal lighting conditions it's fine. It is definitely something to consider though if a little glare would bother you a lot.

Will do And again can't thank you enough But one more question, how big a difference is there between 17 inches and 15 inches on a laptop screen??

I'm not sure that's something I can answer other than just to say it will physically be 2 inches bigger. Keep in mind that distance is measured diagonally.

As far as screen and picture quality, that is determined by the resolution. Generally, the higher the resolution is in relation to the screen the better the picture. For instance, a 15" screen with a resolution of 1920x1080 would have better picture quality than a 17" screen with the same resolution.

Ahh nice Have a 17.3" screen and i'm just afraid that it will annoy me, but maybe i should just take a chance

And one more thing, isn't it a bit risky to get SLI on a laptop? Is it not very few games that support SLI??

Optical drives are kinda going the way of the dinosaur. The only thing I could really think of that I would need one for would be to play Blu-Rays which I don't really do on my laptop. If this were a big issue, you could always get an external USB drive.

Yeah this is true. Scaling will be dependent upon how optimized the game is for SLI. This can range from double the performance of the single card down to hardly any performance increase at all. Most modern games are optimized well for SLI though and older games don't require as much graphical power.

The GT 750m by itself is better than the 660m though.
