Just wondering what ssd drive to get for a Lenovo Ideapad Y700 laptop with gtx 960 and Intel I7. I want to replace my regular 1tb hdd with a 1tb ssd. Will do a clean install. Not totally understanding the whole m.2 ssd thing. Would it be better to keep my regular 1tb hdd and get something in the m.2 slot and do master and slave thing or doesn't it work that way? Or just go for a full replacement? I only use this thing for gaming at the moment until I can scrape enough $ to make a decent desktop pc. Appreciate any help
Plus looking for what ram to get. Only have 8g. Looking to upgrade to 16. Thanks

Ok. Now reading a bit more...should I get a get a regular 2.5in 1tb ssd or a 1tb m.2 drive? So confusing. I wish I had a pc parts picker site like there is for a desktop pc.

Holy crap. I take it back. The M.2's are way expensive for a 1tb. I'm sticking with swapping my 2.5 for a 1 or 2 tb ssd hdd. Lol
Any good recommendations accepted. Doing a clean install btw. Don't want the crap/bloatware anymore

There are lots of 1TB SSDs on e.g. Amazon, with prices ranging from $240 to $400. Here's one from SanDisk:

The Samsung 850 series is very popular, but also typically 10 to 15 % more expensive. M.2 SSDs aren't necessarily more expensive:

About the 'master-slave' option: Last time I did anything involving master and slave drives was 15 years ago on my old IBM Aptiva, and to be perfectly honest I don't know if people do this anymore. I'd suggest you get a good 512GB M.2 SSD and use your mechanical 1TB HDD as a basic storage unit. I think the Y700 is capped at 1.5TB.
