Linking Smartphone to TV screen

Hi,

I want to link my Galaxy S3 up to a fairly old TV screen so that whatever is on my phone will display on the screen. The screen does not have built in Wi-Fi but it does has an HDMI socket so I thought I'd try buying a MicroUSB to HDMI adapter: Here

This doesn't work when I plug it into the TV. I've tried enabling screen mirroring and other screen mirroring apps. I read that other people use this

If the first adapter didn't work is it likely that the second adapter I linked won't either?

If you haven't figured it out yet - I'm not very tech savvy.

They made it proprietary so you need this:

but if you just want to do it for youtube, if you have xbox 360; you can use the youtube app with the same login & control your Youtube on screen with your phone
