Long term phone

Hello!
I am looking for a phone that I can use for a longer term (3-4 years are in my plans). I have looked fore several phones but I just can't make up my mind.I am from Europe ,so I want it to be compatible with GSM carriers(CDMA compatibility dosen't matter).I am not really a selfies guy,so front camera quality dosen't really matter,but the back camera should be reasonably good.And because I want it for a longer term I want good performance to last through the years.The screen should be no larger than 5.5"
Any suggestions?

What carrier does this phone need to be compatible with?
Do you want iphone, android, windows phone?
What are your needs for the phone/what features are most important?

I want iPhone or Android,and I want it to be compatible with European carriers.
These features are important:
-Reasonably good camera
-Good performance to last through the years
-Not a really big screen

5.5" and up

G4 is good but it right at that 5.5" screen size
Nexus 5X would be good.
One Plus is pretty good, although camera is only average
Asus Zenphone would also be good.

Between all of those I would go for Nexus or G4. G4 for camera and Nexus for guaranteed updates.

the next google "nexus" should be out next month(Sep)? not sure about the price tho.

Price wise it will certainly be up there, but good chance to sang up previous gen hardware.
The 6P is quite nice but that is bigger then 5.5in.

What about iPhones?
