Looking for simple point and shoot that does video too, but most important factor is longest lasting battery!!! It's for a wilderness trip and space is vital and no chance to charge. They don't allow cellphones.

Solution
There is always a chance to change batteries, and that is what you'll have to do. No compact point and shoot released in the past two years with decent photo and video capabilities lasts longer than 350-400 shots.
If you want the one with the longest battery life period, then get this one:

If you want specific models that I like (and you might not) feel free to ask.

I don't mind mediocre since it's for a 14 year old, but you're right, perhaps a more rugged camera is in order and just get her 2 batteries? Wonder if anyone knows anything about the Olympus Tough TG-4. I had eye surgery and am finding it difficult to research for very long on computer. Gets cloudy

The TG-4 gets good reviews for the type of camera it is. I think that would be a good choice. 2 extra batteries also sound about right.
