Hi guys!

I currently have a Macbook Pro (i7) that I use for personal use. I am searching for a basic laptop that is thin and is able to be upgraded (HDD/SSD & RAM) but also remaining under the $250 price point. I need a thin laptop for college, nothing to power house heavy, (i3,i5,i7)

I guess the real question is: Which laptop for that price range (approx) can I upgrade and use for college. ALSO: Would the Intel celeron be decent for basic typing with Office, and browsing the web and using Word/Google Docs.

I understand the Celeron/atom are the lowest CPU's in the intel market.

I'm open to all answers and opinions.

Thank you! :)

You best bet is probably the $250 Dell Inspiron 14 3000 which has a 500GB hard drive. That is the cheapest laptop I know of which has a hard drive. Below that you get stuck with 32GB of eMMC storage which is not upgradeable and probably only as fast as a 5400RPM hard drive. It only has 2GB of RAM, but at least it can be upgraded. It only has 1 SODIMM slot and a max capacity of 4GB.

There are specific video review for the Dell Inspiron 14 3451, but here's a link to a review of the HP Stream 11 which has the same Celeron N2840 CPU. Performance is demonstrated at about 3:00 into the video.
