I'm looking for a laptop. I would use it for Facebook and other social media sites to message my friends. I would also use it to watch online movies and TV shows and download LOTS of music. During college, I would use it to research information for projects, make presentations and do word processing. That’s it, as I don't use my computer a lot. My budget is around $400 and I prefer to have a computer that is not too heavy so I can carry it around. What laptop would be affordable and fitted for me?

Should I get a laptop with HDD or SSD? Which one is better and why?

Hi,

Here are some suggestions for a laptop that you're looking for and may suite your taste and budget but just mind that with your budget it's hard to find a laptop that has SSD. I would go for a laptop that has SSD in it since it's faster lighter and more reliable since it doesn't have any moving parts inside it unlike a HDD.

From my experience, a 14.1inch laptop is a bit nicer when it comes to traveling as you can just fit it into a back-pack. The above laptops look to be fine, but maybe something to consider.
An SSD will be more reliable as it won't scratch/damage HDD disks when moved, compared to HDD. I have used the same laptop for 3 years (Only recently upgrading for a faster one) and during that time I used it around school, and now recently university (Including transit by train) and had the original HDD in it.
Although an SSD is more reliable, if you take care of a HDD and don't move it much when turned on and be careful not to expose the laptop to sudden movements/drops, it can last a long time. Still make sure you back up work in online storage and/or on a USB.
