looking for a novice camera

I'm looking for a camera as a present for my mother, she's starting to get into photography so she is a novice. I would like to get her one that is easy to use but has some more advanced features that she can learn to use (if that's even possible i know nothing on this subject) and if there is any other equipment that you would recommend with it like particular SD cards and carrying cases etc. As she is just starting i would like to to do this as cheap as possible but i'm willing to spend extra to get a good quality camera. I live in the UK. Thanks for your help.

What is the upper limit of your budget? Knowing a price range will help because there are so many digital cameras available.

You might start on the real inexpensive end, by getting a better camera app for her phone. If she has a current generation cell phone she has OK hardware to start with. Sometimes the built in app isn't the best but even an upgraded app is < $10 ...

If you want one with interchangeable lenses then you might consider these:

If not, then you may want to consider these:

Panasonic Lumix DMC-FZ200

I would highly recommend a tripod.
