1. What is your budget? £200

2. What is the size of the notebook that you are considering? anything above 13"

3. What screen resolution do you want? average or better

4. Do you need a portable or desktop replacement laptop? desktop replacement

5. How much battery life do you need? not too bothered as will most probably be always plugged into the mains

6. Do you want to play games with your laptop? If so then please list the games that you want to with the settings that you want for these games. (Low,Medium or High)? if i do it will likely be old games such as theme hospital, rolercoaster tycoon. possibly F1 2011 if if worked but no dramas if it didnt.

7. What other tasks do you want to do with your laptop? (Photo/Video editing, Etc.) It will mainly be used for microsoft office etc. internet browsing and i do use lightroom to edit photos which would be the main factor.

8. How much storage (Hard Drive capacity) do you need? at least 500GB

9. If you are considering specific sites to buy from, please post their links. am looking second hand on ebay.

10. How long do you want to keep your laptop? 5 years

11. What kind of Optical drive do you need? DVD ROM/Writer,Bluray ROM/Writer,Etc ? dvd-rewriter

12. Please tell us about the brands that you prefer to buy from them and the brands that you don't like and explain the reasons. not too bothered about brands.

13. What country do you live in? UK

14. Please tell us any additional information if needed. My desktop currently runs on a Intel core 2 Duo E8600 @ 3.33GHz, 2GB ram, 32 operating system.

It pretty much does what i want it to but it takes up too much room hence why i want a laptop to replace it. i want a laptop that would load up quick and maybe do things a tad faster than my desktop.

i have looked at the i3, i5 laptops and some seem to be in my price bracket but not sure as to which one as would like the best for my money.

all advice welcomed..

many thanks.

Solution
There are quite a few first gen Core i5 systems for about 200, look at local ad sites like craigslist and ebay.
A common business laptop model like a Lenovo T410 may be easy to find and should be pretty cheap as people get them in bulk from corporate sales or recycling places. I sell T410 system quite often and they for in the 140-180 range depending on options.
My best advice is to upgrade the desktop that you have as most laptops will be weaker than it. Also I think all laptops will struggle to run lightroom for the low budget as it is a very demanding program.
