looking for gaming, photo and video editing

im looking for a laptop thats fast for browsing but works great with photo and video editing and also some gaming eg minecraft and tekit, im going to college in a couple months t has to look good and be portable enough to take from home on the bus and to class, im a graphic product and automotive design student if that helps, I have a budget of around £1000 ive looked at Lenovo y580, sony vaio s13, and msi ge60, preferably made of metal and a slim design 13" to 16" will be fine any help would really be appreciated

For your needs, just make sure it has a dedicated graphics card (650M or better I think would suit you and your mentioned programs fine), and if you're really going to be invested in photo editing, I advise looking into a system that offers the 95% NTSC screen. You'll get more accurate color reproduction and greater saturation (if you're REALLY serious about the hobby, consider buying a spyder calibration tool alongside as well). 8 GB or more of RAM as well is advisable!

A lot of these units use IBS plastic, so you'll really need to shop around to find something that's made of aluminum alloy or carbon fiber (a lot of ultrabooks are made of aluminum alloy).

I like Lenovo as a brand, and Sony is decent, though I can attest more from experience that the MSI machines are pretty good. Very easy to work on also.
