I want to get a pair of headphones with surround sound so when I'm playing games i can hear exactly what direction people are, I don't care if it has a mic or not, if it does not I will just get a Zalman Zm-Mic1. I don't really want to spend any more then £100 max the cheaper the better, but if its worth spending more then £100 I will.

Anyone have any good recommendations? Many thanks ethan!

Headphones don't really come with "surround", its usually the headsets. And just like Indestructiball said, stereo is just as good. I recommend you save up a bit and get a Xonar sound card, that is only if you have a PC.

For headphones:

Sennheiser HD 558 - http://www.amazon.co.uk/Sennheiser-HD-558-Headphones-Technology-Noir/dp/B004FEEY9A/ref=sr_1_24?ie=UTF8&qid=1422934888&sr=8-24&keywords=sennheiser

Sennheiser HD 518 - http://www.amazon.co.uk/Sennheiser-HD-518-Circumaural-Headphones-Noir/dp/B0042A68R8/ref=sr_1_43?ie=UTF8&qid=1422934945&sr=8-43&keywords=sennheiser

Audio Technica ATH-M40x (great headphones, I have it) -...

AKG K551 (crazy deal) - http://www.amazon.co.uk/AKG-Reference-Class-Over-ear-Headphones-Microphone-silver/dp/B008T9RI90/ref=sr_1_10?ie=UTF8&qid=1422935088&sr=8-10&keywords=akg

Those are the best headphones for the price.

Hope this helps!

Ahh why are the so many to chose from!!!

Thanks for the reply, yes I do have a pc and i am going to use the headphones/headset for gaming. The main thing i want is to be able to pinpoint the location of gun fire and people walking through the forest.

I was doing some research online and discovered that virtual 3D sound is done by the sound card so there's no point spend extra money on a "7.1 gaming headset".

I have a Asus H87M-Plus motherboard, it has a on board Realtek ALC887 chipset and 8 Channels audio jacks, do i need a sound card?
Isn't the onboard 8 Channel sound better then a 7.1 pci sound card?

I'm such a noob :p

I need to chose a headset/headphone, I'm not fussed about super high audio quality but i really want to be able to hear the exact direction where gunshots are coming from.

I'm not sure what headset/headphone will give the best performance, iv been looking at Asus Strix PRO(look cool like a owl lol), Logitech G430 and corsair vengeance 1500 v2 but a lot of people say gaming headsets are a waste of money, I have been looking at the ATH-M40x as well but i don't know which one will give the best performance, if there's a audiophile on this forum please help me!

So its good you figured it out. The best headphones here for gaming would be one of the Sennheisers, the others would be decent for gaming and more toward the music side. It looks like you have a good sound card already so that's not a problem. All you have to do now is look into a mic, specifically a modmic, check out the Ant Lion Modmic 4.0.

Thanks, i will get the Sennheiser HD 518 they have lots of good reviews.

For the moment I'm going to get a cheap £5 microphone, eventual i want to get a good £100-£200 microphone that I can use with my camera and pc, works out better getting 1 very high quality microphone then 2 mid-high range microphones.
