Looking for help with laptop

I have an emachaine 250 I bought off Craigslist and the man said that he replace the keyboard battery and charger it was working fine at his home but once I got it home and turn it on it did some virus updated restarted and then the screen was black and nothing happen what went wrong. The green charge light is on saying it is charging, when I hit the power button I can hear the fans but the screen stay black can you please help me out with this, cause I will be out of a 170.00 thanks for your time.
