Looking for laptop for work and entertainment

Hello!

I am looking for laptop that can display videos and movies well with no problems. Sites like Netflix and Youtube are used a lot.
Also fast enough for work and listening to music at the same time.
Battery life is really important. The longer the better.
Laptop being light and quiet are a plus (but not mandatory)

I am against some brands. Every HP product has been bad in every aspect... (but that's just my opinion)

The budget is under 900€, but if some laptop is really an exceptional one, I am willing to raise the budget.

I would look at a thinkpad, they are durable will handle and work, and have good screens. I would also take a look at some of the mid range dell laptops and Acer laptops for the best bang for your buck.

Just speculation on my part, but I saw nothing indicating the need for a discrete GPU. I think he'd be better off spending the bucks on a better CPU. But depending on his actual use, I could be mistaken.

Yeah, which is why i was suggesting a Thinkpad, preferably a X260 or T560. They have good screens, are durable, have good battery life, and are just outright easy to use.

Any laptop can play movies and browse. It's the display quality, durability, battery life, and size that will dictate a good suggestion.

What size of laptop are you looking for?

The laptop will not be used for gaming. I need a fast and durable laptop, which I can work with and watch Netflix for instance.
I have had one laptop in mind.

Not a good buy, because ULV processors are Dual Core and wont perform that well with anything that heavy. I have a laptop with a 6200u which is the core i5 version of that chip and it has issues playing back movies from a Dvd.

I would look into a normal thinkpad. like T series or X series.

My i7-5600u has had no issues with any general tasks I've thrown at it (basically the same as a ULV i5). DVD playback, web browsing, etc, all very snappy. It's basically like a desktop i3 a few generations ago.

That is a ULV chip. LOL U stands for that. Anyways its brand new funtional, just that newer laptop chips have become vastly weaker than older ones from the sandy and ivy bridge gen.

No they haven't? Unless you're comparing a 2 to an old 4 core of something. I went from a i7-2820QM to that i7-5600U, which, yes is a 2 core ULV chip. More than enough power for everyday tasks, great portability, amazing battery life, and very little heat.

Basically the same comment was comparing i5u to i7u btw.

sound like you have an issue with your laptop, not the cpu itself in general.

Just an example, you said it playing DVD slow on your laptop.
So you have issue with VLC, nothing to do with the cpu. Just because you have issue with your laptop doesn't mean everyone having issue.

VLC still works on my old Pentium M from college without maxing out the 1-core CPU. Something's wrong with YOUR comptuer.

So which choice in laptop would be fitting? I got no time to search for one, and it would be great if someone could give me some examples of laptops to buy. Only things that matter are screen size, speed and battery life.

Dell Inspiron 5000
Lenovo 500 or Ideapad
Asus has a few in that category

I personally don't like Toshiba, and HP is hit-or-miss for me.

Core i5, i7 will suit your needs fine; look for 8 GB RAM minimum and a SSD if you'd prefer it.
