I'm about to go to vet school and am looking for a new laptop. I have a standard macbook now that needs upgrading, but I would like a pc. I will use it for notes, playing a few games here and there, but my fiance edits videos so I would like it to be good enough that she can use for that also. I am leaning towards this: http://www.shopping.hp.com/webapp/shopping/cto.do
I would get the upgraded screen, battery, memory. What I'm wondering is, is the i7 4710 with the 4600, better or worse that the i7 4510 with GTX 850. Or any other recomendations?

The GTX 850M will beat the HD4600 any day. It is a dedicated chip and will have a good die. The 4710mq will be a lot better for rendering because of its 4 cores with hyperthreading versus the the 4510m's 2 cores and hyperthreading. For rendering, go with the 4710. For gaming and some rendering, the 4510.
