Hi, I'm in a need of over-ear headphones which are under $100.
I'm mainly going to be using it for listening to music, specifically pop and EDM.
It would always be nice to have wide sound stage and overall great quailty sound but not skull crushing over-emphasised bass. :ouch:
Any advice is appreciated!

There are a great many other choices than the M40X. It's a solid choice but it's certainly not the only one. There's a good buying list here:

Thank you for the response. :ange:
I'm no expert by any means, it's only going to be for personal listening.
Should I really go $50 higher? Because prices are just terrifying in my country :bounce:

just get what you can afford. The ATH are very good quality. I imagine their lesser expensive Mx40s might still be very nice, they are probably in your range. But look for Studio Monitor headphones, whatever you get, the reference models won't be muddy or too much bass. You can always tweak your sound how you like it. Mx40 should be about 100.

yep, 99 bucks here, but I hope it fits for you in your country.

I am just glad someone else answered and has a good one. bookmarked that page. thanks. when I answer these questions it is usually because I have or had the product. So the M50x was my choice, and as you say, good but not only choice. Had I had your link or done my research more properly, I may have gone a different route.

My son took my AKG K702 cans, :-( so now I have to look for another set for home. this list is welcome in my research.

I'd be glad to help with that. If you're interested, post in my home audio thread linked in my sig so we don't hijack this thread. Or post a thread and PM me a link. Either is fine. :)
