Looking Laptop buying advice?

Hey I need some advice, I am looking to buy a laptop with a good battery life and is good with gaming (skyrim).

My budget is 750$
I don't really need a touch screen but I do need the battery to last while so I can use it in class.

I am not quite sure how to translate the specs of a computer
Into what it really means.
