Making use of the remains of a PS48 speaker system.

I have a Bose powered speaker system Model PS48. which includes the 2 front speakers 2 rear speakers and one front center speaker. The media/dvd is not included, its damaged. I would like to know how to connect the 8 pin audio input wire to a tv or stereo preamp in general. Do I have to have a remote for the bose, or will the tv or preamp serve as the controller? Its a pity to put this speaker sytem on the side, it has worked fine for several years so far. bose subwoofer serial # 0297149303110108as .
NOTE this unit is 100-120 volt input not dual voltage. The audio cable is an 8 pin not 9. The audio wire that connect this speaker system to the media/ audio unit, looks like it has a patch/internet plug that connects to the speaker unit and the other end of the wire that hooks up to the TV/media center has a round connector (8 pin) similar to a S VHS plug but it is not, were can this hook up to, that will control also the volume? Will this work without the remote?

Since Bose will not be cooperative you will need to do some investigation.
There will be at least one ground connection, 6 audio inputs, and maybe a wire to turn on the amp inside the sub in the 8 pin connector.
If you can trace the wiring inside the sub you may be able to determine which does what.
The ground wire should be the attached to the ground on the AC cord. A VOM will confirm that.
If you can get it turned on you can apply a line level audio signal to each of the 6 remaining leads and the ground to determine what channel each one responds to.
You won't be able to run it from a TV. Usually all the outputs are fixed. If there is a headphone jack you could get 4 or four speakers playing in stereo. No center or sub though.
Same issue with a stereo preamp unless you find one with a subwoofer out. Then still no center and no real surround sound.
You could use an AV preamp processor or AVR with preamp outputs to run it. The AVR remote would control the volume. Some AVRs have a 12v dc trigger so it the Bose is turned on with 12vdc that would work great. You could also just leave it on. No Bose remote needed.
