Microphone not working

How do I find the microphone set up eg. mute, on off etc?

Please be more more specific on the setup you use, such as microphone model, mixer model, the way they are connected, and so on...
Or maybe you're talking about a multimedia microphone hooked to a PC, in this case please detail the microphone model, audio card, operating system, driver, and so on.
We can't help people who ask such generic questions unless you give more details.
