Microphone won't work no matter what

I have been having microphone problems randomly

Everything was fine until one day i realised that my friends couldn't hear me on skype.

I tried everything to fix my problem but nothing helped. I tried:
-Checking every setting in the mixer to make sure mic wasn't muted etc
-Done a fresh windows install
-Bought a Audio to usb Adaptor
-Bought a sound card to see if that would help but it didn't also.

I have a HyperX headset (the mute button is definitely not on....even tried it without the volume controller)

Help would be appreciated....It's hard to own a PC and not be able to use a mic for gaming.

Have you tested the headset on another computer? Does the mic work outside of Skype, in the Windows audio test for example? You did a lot of checking on things, except to see if the mic on the headset was actually working. Re-installing Windows and an new sound card won't help if you have a broken microphone.
