My computer runs any other game perfectly fine on high settings. I've uninstalled all old versions of Java and updated to the most recent version. I've allocated more RAM to the game to no avail. I have Optifine downloaded and installed. I'm at my wits end...Can someone please tell me why this game runs at 45 fps when it should be well into the hundreds with these specs. Thanks

Minecraft is a heavily CPU bound game, the processor you have in your system is not that great for render distances greater than about 16 chunks. I would also recommend only allocating about 3 or 4 GB of ram to the game, as any more than that can actually slow it down due to inefficiencies with how the game handles memory(I got a 20 fps boost going from 8 GB allocated to 3). Right now, my build can handle most games no problem as well, but with my 3570k processor @4.4GHz, I am unable to run Minecraft over 20 render distance smoothly, even though I have a GTX 760. Open task manager and look at your CPU usage, I would say that if runs over 85% or so, then your processor is the bottleneck, causing your framerate issues. If that is the case, lower your render distance and hope for the best

Thanks for the response. When i hit F3 in minecraft, it shows my amd radeon R9 270x so i assume it's using that graphics card as opposed to the built in graphics.

Thanks for the reply. I was kind of curious about the processor being the cause. I have my render distance set to 8 (normal) and going lower barely seems to affect the fps. Opened task manager and my cpu usage is at 27%. I have an AMD Radeon R9 270x graphics card. that should do the trick right?

Your graphics card should have no problems with minecraft, are your drivers up to date, and are all other apps/programs closed when running the game?

I have all drivers up to date and minecraft is the only program i have open when i play. I've tried just about everything I can think of or have read. I'm absolutely stumped...It's frustrating to have put money into building a computer specifically to play games and i can't play the one i want. ugh

Well, they said it's not great for render distances farther than 16 and i have it set to 8. I don't see why this is the isssue.
Do you have any suggestions? Do you think a brand new cpu is the answer, and if so, which one would you recommend? thanks
