Hey guys i was wondering what the absolute minimum cpu was you could combine with a GTX 980m in SLI mode and NEVER get a bottleneck, not now and not in a year or 2 with Farcry 4 and what not running in 1080p,

I have tried to research the subject, but little is to be found about the 980m SLI and the CPU combination.

This thread is regarding INTEL cpu's only.

Best regards,

Solution
It depends on how much the final product costs because a lot of games use about two cores (maybe hyperthreading) so the ghz of the cores helps more than multiple cores. And the difference is also 200 but this time its 3x the difference which is why if 200 is a small portion of the final cost, it's worth it, but if it increases the price by a lot then it's not worth it.

And my bad for not checking completely the first time

there are not a ton of laptops that have dual 980's available, and you might not like all of them. So you should look at the ones you are considering buying and then post the cpu option so we can get a better idea of what you're dealing with.

The first 3 are desktop ones but I think you know that. As for the other ones I would definitely go with the 4810MQ. Its the first quadcore chip so it's a huge jump from the dual core, and the difference between that one and the 4910 is only 0.1ghz for 200 more which is not worth it.

If you look closely the i7 4710MQ is the first quadcore in the list , but its cheaper than some of the dual cores,

as for the top CPU's now that you mention it i see they are desktop version, but i can send you the link to the website that offers them in a notebook, how strange they must have goofed,

But that aside , would you choose the 4710mq over the 4810mq ? now that you look at the prices again

I understand what you are saying, but do you think any of the ones in the list are inadequate for max settings 1080p gaming with a 980 sli nowadays and the following years?

I don't think any quad core processor working below 3ghz can run every game at max settings for next many years. Can it?
A gt980m sli is overkill for 1080p as of now but for the processor, I have my fongers crossed for sager to come up with a laptop with 980msli plus a desktop processor (pprobably i7 5xxx series) :)
