Mkv supports tv but not blu ray player ? Samsung H6500

OK..here is the problem.
Got some files around 6.1gb and it is playing via my tv usb port & on my Hard disk, But not playing on my blu ray player!
Says its not supported ? [Samsung H6500]

Is there any way to play this files on my blu ray player ?

Unless someone has rewritten custom firmware for the bluray player then NO.

In order to play a certain kind of file there has to be a codec on the device that tells it how to play the file.

In your case the Blu-ray player does not support mkv.

I am frankly amazed your TV supports it. Since mkv is the most common type of file that pirated movies/shows are put in, most TV/Blu-ray companies just don't support it for different reasons.

But this player already supports mkv and plays pretty much everything I've thrown at it.

Strangely enough my tv does not support all codecs of mkv but it plays it.

Can't place my hdd near tv usb port..and it reads way slowly than bd player.

So wondering what might be the problem here ? its pretty much straight forward mkv file with aac codec isn't it ?

Hi,
The problem appears to be you don't support HIGH PROFILE for the H.264 standard. I suspect you only support normal up to version 4.2.

MKV (Matroksa) works fine.
You can convert videos with HANDBRAKE. You can adjust the speed which affects quality (fast to test). I also use "Mediainfo" tool to read my files info. Basically you must support:
1) Container (MKV, MP4 etc)
2) Video codec (H.264, MPEG2 etc)
3) Audio codec (MP3, AAC etc)

Some of my audio won't work either (DTS-HD?).

Here's quick Handbrake settings:
a) MKV
b) Normal profile
c) 2-pass, bitrate as appropriate (use what mediainfo said, such as 6000Kbps)
d) variable frame rate
e) anamorphic (NONE)
f) preset speed (fastest to test compatibility, but MEDIUM or SLOW for quality conversion)
g) audio-> AAC 192Kbps dolby pro logic II

Update:
*according to the manual it supports up to H.264 level 4.1 (not 4.2), though it does NOT SPECIFY if High or Normal matters.

In another link it says "HP" (high profile) is supported. So I'm going to grab a random video, then use Handbrake to convert and try High Profile level 4.1. (note we get updates to the player that don't tell us anything, but I can say a lot of my videos don't play and when i check them it's been for THREE different reasons).

1) H.264 profile too high, or
2) DTS-HD or similar unsupported audio, or
3) 10-bit encode (not 8-bit)
