how many reported shootings in the world is caused by the influence of video games? Graphic shooting games have been around since the 80's... so we know something.

The characters in the game, though they may only be programming objects, do represent people. Games attempt to immerse people in an alternate reality and the programmers do a pretty good job. When I play a game, I'm not thinking about manipulating human interface devices to change the parameters of these objects, I'm thinking, "shoot the bad guys." I didn't kill the civilians because of what they represent, despite the fact that they are created in code.

Of all people, the Japanese are getting "offended" about morality? Either two things can occur.

1. They are upset you can use a WW2 plane to blow up the crowd.
2. You can't go up to the crowd AI and commit sensual acts.

Oh the mysterious ways of the Japanese.

I kept shooting Makarov and his men, but the game kept ending. Stupid story. If I was the operative I would have wasted Makarov and his men, and then none of the Russian invasion would have happened.

I just caved in today and picked the game up used for the X-Box 360. I swore left and right I wasn't going to shoot just to be the one cool guy to say I honestly didn't. I didn't have any idea that "No Russian" was the third mission you play and because the first two missions pumped me up so great I was all exited and just came out of the elevator trying to bunny hop and was the first to pull the trigger at the security guard.

Does this mean I need to see a counselor? I had good intentions before hand but that mission is put right when the excitement begins for Modern Warfare 2 and I almost peed myself in excitement to shoot the civilians.

The thing to admire about both the Germans and the Japanese; is that they as a nation have fully accepted the lessons of their militaristic past. Both nations have a military purely for defensive reasons, and both are extremely wary of right-wing fascism. Their moral position is not a sign of hypocrisy but a genuine deep-rooted concern that the errors of the past should not be repeated again. These are now two of the most pacifistic nations on Earth.

I played through the level and killed as many as I could. It's just a game, it's NOT REAL. I don't know about anyone else, but I have no trouble drawing the line between video games and reality. I enjoy playing the story the way it was designed, no matter what the content. It has no affect on me, and certainly does not change the way I act in real life(based off murdering pixels)

So, why not kill 1000 people in the streets? They're a bunch of living cells with useless lives anyways...

I'm not offended by the mission, but I was a bit shocked at first. Although it's a game, I don't find it quite fun to kill inoccent people who aren't even trying to kill me. Just my opinion though.

Well some correct me if I am wrong but their are a great deal of revisionist history buffs in Japan. They hardly mention their militaristic past. Nothing is mentioned about the rape of Nanking nor the Bataan death march. While the Japanese government has apologized for its roll in WW2 it is hardly satisfactory to many Chinese, Americans and Filipinos who suffered under Japanese occupation. Most of those responsible for the worst attrocities under the Japanese were never brought to justice.

OMG, its so stupid.. I KILLED 10 PPL playing MW2 or I FRAGGED 10 PPL playing MW2, It doesn't mean i have lust for blood and i need to kill, it's a game and while some are taking it to seriously, it's still a GAME, something that should ENTERTAIN, not hurt.
My theory is, it's parents fault that they don't teach children the difference between M-rated titles and those that are meant to be for them. It's because what games LOOKED like, not what was thair purpose. Same is with drinking and any other stuff you can do at age of 16/17/18/21.. While at 17 i can go join army and KILL REAL PEOPLE, i can't have beer.. at least in US... for the love of God, use common sense, unfortunately some people appear to have none..
