Only one problem ... what will you do with the carbon monoxide that it will produce. All hydrocarbons when burnt produce some amount of that invisible gas and it will kill you if you leave it along long enough.

"it's compact design also means users can mount it on walls."

Just because you can, doesn't mean you should....

This doesn't look that new, I've seen things like these at design shows for purchase loads. The only difference being instead of ethanol they use an environmentally friendly alcohol based gel. The only problem with them is that they don't give off nearly as much warmth as a real fire.

In fact, having watched the very low budget video on the website I linked, it would actually be very easy to modify an existing fireplace to use the gel/ethanol pots. I.e. you could get a cheap chiminea, put three pots of the stuff in and you'd be good to go with it indoors.

How is this "carbon-neutral"? True, the amount of carbon released by the combustion is eventually sequestered by later crops of corn, but don't make the classic error of neglecting to factor in the carbon released from the supplemental processes (farm equipment, alcohol processing, transportation, etc.).

And while we're on the subject of ethanol, let's remain sober to the fact it is no panacea and requires more energy to produce than what can be derived from it.

"carbon-neutral way." Not anymore. With what scientists have discovered, that gases like this, or even ones that should ocol the earth actually heat it more when combined with the gases that normally heat the earth.

Ethanol is not for burning it's for DRINKING. Those thingies though would make some nice wall torches for a private dungeon.

speaking of bio-fuels... check out this site
http://ls9.com/
they basically use fermentation to create crude oil.
not ethanol, im talking almost 1 to 1 with crude but it burns cleaner. check it out.
