monitor screen black

When I start my desktop,the screen remains black,after flashing.It takes some time,but eventually,by restarting,and turning the monitor on and off,and repeatedly clicking the mouse,it will come on,It also sparks,when I plug in the power cord.What could be causing this issue?Thanks.

Sparks when you plug in? Not a good sign. It sounds like you have a few different problems. Have you tried a different cord to see if the sparking stops? You so don't want to fry it or start a fire.

Also, I would update your drivers, then check your graphics card and check that motherboard.

If the sparks continue, then it is going to need repairs.
