my logitech electronic mouse with CD windows xp, me, 2000, 98, NT 4.0, 95 won't install on my sony vaio windows vista familiale premium which I updated to SP2

That CD does not cover Vista, and there was a fair jump in the underlying technology for drivers between XP and vista.

The logitech website might be able to provide more up to date drivers, i'm surprised that it does 'just work' when you plug it in without any additional drivers.
