Movie Maker not playing sound of recorded video from camcorder

I copied files from my old Sony DCR-TRV340 camcorder tapes thru the USB cable supplied by Sony. When I play the video in Movie Maker 2 there is no sound. My sound card works perfectly. Is it because of the USB? I also have firewire card MM but MM recognizes the camcorder sometimes and capture mode stops abruptly. Can someone help?

missing codec... and movie maker 2 is generic. I had a similar problem where the video would be cut in half.. with no sound.
Sony really is horrible about being so paranoid about their codecs and dont like to play nice with other video editing software. They are probably forcing you to use sony software. If you can find out the codec name from the original source , then find software to support it.
