Movies will not play

My son downloaded me some movies to my micro sd card for my tablet but when installed on tablet they will no t play. Any ideas on how to get them to play.

Start by telling us what format the movies are in (file name extensions are a good start), then tell us what tablet you have and what operating system it's running. And what exactly happens when you try to play them, such as error messages if any.
