whats the difference between the two? I was planning on buying an SSD and I came accross 2 samsung evo drives both with the exact same speeds but one is sata and the other is msata, which do I get? what is the difference?
Msata was designed for ultrabooks and small laptops. It allows you to have extremely small drives in those laptops instead of having big bulky 2.5' drives hogging a lot of space and spewing out heat.
Different connection type, SATA is the traditional 2.5 Inch drive form factor with regular sata and sata power ports mSATA is a small add in board that connects to a Mini PCIe connector on the motherboard.
I use a Samsung 840 EVO mSata drive on my desktop computer. it doesn't use a cable as it plugs into a special mSata slot on your motherboard. Newer boards have mSata slots on them. There are also M.2 slots/drives but I believe that they end up using some of your PCIe lanes.
