My ASUS has 2 ports, one each for mic and headphones. My headphones have a mic too, but when I use the mic port, the laptop does not recognise it as a mic, so I cannot use it as an external microphone.
On your link there is reference to the 2 cables provided, one with a mic, and it's that one I am trying to use. Many thanks if you help nthink it through

Can you post a picture with that cable so that the mic can be seen?

I don't use those sites - just have all my photos on computer, basically. Can't see an attachment icon here. How important would a photo be? Many thanks for you thoughts
I don't think that the headphones have a mic.

I can't see any reference to a mic, that's why I want to make sure that what you consider to be a mic is actually a mic.

No mention about a microphone. Only an airline adapter.

Not sure my response got through. So this is a repeat - Your earlier link did show the mic cable in a green box. The box, and my product user guide refer to 2 cables one with a 'mic and control', and there are 2 cables with the headphones. Another thread discussed a similar problem but partly understood as the person's ASUS only having one port for both mic and headphones. Mine are separate. I think it may be the ASUS with the problem, as I have also plugged in a BOSE set of headphones with a mic and that also was ignored by the available recording devices of the computer.
