Does the fan run at all? At full speed burst when you first power up? If not, then there is probably an issue with no fan RPM signal and it's causing the system to shut down to prevent thermal failure. If that's the case, then you'll need to replace the fan.

If the fan does run normally during those 5 to 7 seconds, then you likely have a shorted power jack, faulty motherboard or other hardware issue. On a system that old, it's probably better to just replace it with a newer unit. Parts will likely be expensive unless you can find another identical used unit to salvage parts from and if you are not familiar with disassembling and reassembling laptops the labor to have it done would almost certainly exceed what the unit is worth.
