My .doc .docx and xls changes to .exe

Hey Guys

On my server my .doc, .docx and .xls files were somehow converted to .exe files. I scanned of of my computers and non were infected. I also checked each one's local my documents folders and no corruption was found. no other files were bothered. publisher files, .rtf, .jpg, .bmp were untouched even if the were in the same folder as the doc and xls files. which virus or trojan does this and is there a way to recover?

Which AV did you use? Is it up to date?
Since only MS Off files were infected, Macros can also be suspected.
Check and report what happens when you rename the exe to doc and open with alternatives like Openoffice.

not workable when i rename it. however on my laptop when i tried to acces the file it converted to a tmp file that could be resaved and it opened.

You have a got a virus attack. I believe your virus guard out of date. Update it or install a powerful one, AVG, Avast, ...
