My gateway Laptop keyboard is typing the wrong order of letters.

My gateway Laptop keyboard is typing the wrong order of letters. Ex. when typing the word 'find"-I type fi and then when I press n it goes before the i as fnid

Does this happen with an external keyboard?
Is the keyboard layout correct?
