My laptop crashed and is not recognizing the hard disk

I tried to upgrade my Windows 8 software to Windows 8.1 but the it hanged and so i had to restart it in the middle of the setting up process. Then, it so happened that the laptop didnt recognize the hard disk. It showed the message "No boot device found" and kept repeating the message. How am i supposed to fix the hard disk? Please help.

It "hanged" because the disk died. Probably no fixing but replacing. It would be a good time for an ssd. Sorry for your luck!

Is it showing in the BIOS?
Do you have another computer to make a bootable CD of Seagate Tools for DOS so you can check the hard drive to see if it really failed or if it is just Windows not finding the boot sector?
