my laptop is blowing fuses

A friend gave me a laptop. He had bought a new charger and it blew a fuse.I replaced the fuse and it tripped my electric. The charger he had used was from China HP part number 374474-002. I contacted HP and they said for my laptop I need a HP adapter Part number: 693715-001 with a hp power cord part number 490371-021. This is going to be expensive. Can you advise me - do you think it blew because the charger and power lead were possibly not suitable or do you think the lap top needs attention. I know nothing. The laptop is a hp 530 p/n GH634AA#ABU. I dont want to buy a charger and power cord only to find that I have to get the laptop repaired. Thank you

could be either the cheap chinese charger

or a fault in the laptop power jack causing a short
