You can force a power off by holding the power button down for roughly 10 seconds. Worst case scenario, you can unplug the power and remove the battery (or wait for the battery to die).
If you unhook everything and get the computer off then turn it back on and there's still just a black screen, then it's possible the computer config is set to only display the video to the external monitor (even though it's not hooked up). Generally laptops have the option to switch the displays by holding the FN key and pressing one of the "F" keys (such as F5). It's generally indicated by a square with a vertical line on either side.
