Solved! My lg disk drive wont play dvds

My acer does not have a disk drive so I had to buy an optical one. I use the LG super multi drive. It worked fine installing software on my computer but every time i put in a dvd or blu ray disk it doesnt play. i have downloaded other media players from the windows store but every time i try to play something it says that there is nothing there.

I think you mean an external optical drive. All DVD/CD drives are optical. 😀

What is the exact model # of the drive you are referring to?

Wonder if it's a driver issue.

Try downloading and installing VLC media player if you haven't already:

https://www.videolan.org/vlc/

Also, FWIW, that drive will not play or record Blu-ray discs.

With the drive connected, in Windows, search for and open Device Manager. Double-click DVD/CD-ROM drives to expand the category. Does a name or a model # for the drive appear?

The DVDs you are trying to play, are they actual purchased ones or self made (by you or someone else) ones. If it is the latter, that may be the reason it doesn't work.
